xfig 似乎够用了还是你推荐的吧？
我觉得它对带文字的矢量图处理比较合适，能输出PS+latex combined
另外一些软件采取的方法是export to ps/pdf的时候后台运行latex编译图片的注释文字
但是注释有时要包含第三方package或者自己\newcommand定义的命令，就会报错[Bird (5-22 12:55, Long long ago)]

另外一些软件采取的方法是export to...)说说我关于图片最不爽的事理想中的系统是能支持所有输入图片格式(fig,eps,pdf,png,jpeg...)，在编译前convert on demand
比方说，允许在文档中用\includegraphics{aaa}, 编译的时候，系统根据指定的输出格式（ps/pdf/html）按某个后缀顺序找aaa.后缀。找到后如果必要，用fig2dev or convert转到可以接受的格式。
这样的好处是，每次修改fig不用重新export；每次想换一种格式输出的时候不需要手动转换一张张图片；如果想include一张jpg，系统会自动帮你转成eps...
（不爽之下，花了不少功夫完成了这个系统，现在。。。一个重要的Makefile在硬盘事故中罹难..）[Bird (5-22 13:36, Long long ago)]

我现在大部分情况下用Lyx写文章，很少直接写latex了。

lyx提交杂志会议的可以用吗？好像他自己定义了风格。

I need to draw a lot of so-called "band-diagrams" in my thesis, which have similar structure. Scripting with metapost seems a possible solution...
