2007 System

As compared to 2006 9-round system, this year, during the arbiter course, we noticed that SIXGA has considered 3 other alternatives before the selection of 2-round knock out system for the top 4. The other two alternatives were 3-round knock out system for the top 8 (in this case, no incentive for the remaining 32 players to continue with the last 3 rounds) and 2-round knock out system for the top 4 with 2 losers from 1st round (Round 8, this year) returning to play with the main body in the last round (Round 9 this year, a bit unfair for the two losers).

As for the actual situation this year (40 players), after 4 rounds, only one with full 4 points, i.e. (add 50%) minimum of 6 rounds is enough for this year.

As there are so many (6) of 5 points, mainly due to unexpected none with 5.5 points.

In all, this year 9-round method is still a better system, my personal view only.

So, it is increasing, .... any relationship with the number of rounds ?!

Definitely, 9+2 will be better than 7+2 and ...

11+2 will be better than 9+2, ..... eventually, it is still a number and not every body is happy with it.

The consideration here is whether X+2 is better than previous years method.

Some early years, they played 13 rounds ?! But now a day, if you have too many rounds, may be not many can join.

So, those officers in-charge at SIXGA will have a hard time to deicde on the number ....... as for us as players, we just participate if we can affort the time for that year.

The 7+2 system indeed brings about more excitment as the spectators will see the semi-final and finals as a more fiercely fought competition than in a swiss system. However, SIXGA is trying to prevent people from watching the games and does it not defeat the purpose of a X + 2 system? Furthermore, there are no big chess boards to broadcast the games nor are there any efforts to put the games online so that the chess fans can follow the news. If that is the case, why not make it 9 rounds like last year's competition? It is more accurate in gauging the strengths of all the players. Another question to consider is that is the 7+2 system raising the qualities of the games? Well, I do not think there is much differences as compared to previous years. In fact, it might be worse. don't stop at talking only, action, please.

As for this year, since I know SIXGA is not publish anything in the official website, so I try to do some postings for Group B competition, I may not do the same for Group A due to other commitments.

As players, we like to have everything (just like the advertisement on anything, whatever), we are not in SIXGA EXCO and do not understand their problems and concerns, furthermore, they are volunteers, we could not expect them to contribute thier times same as the professionals as in China.

May be Mr. Marauder should consider to stand for SIXGA EXCO Election next year and implement those changes from internal.

Sorry, I will stop here and move on to other topics.....

The 7 participated in 2006, their positions in 2007 are within 12 to 31, please try again next year.

The 10 in the initial list of prediction, 5 are in the top five positions, the other 5 are within 20, the six not promoted should try again next year, please.

This is my last posting for 2007 Group B Individuals.
