Singapore License is permanet provided it is not revoked becoz of acummulated pts exceeding yearly limit.
international driving permit only useful when ur resident period is less than one year, if more than that u must use a local lincense.
Getting a international driving permit in SG cost only 20 dollars and very fast.
Same permit in china is cost 1K RMB and of not much use.

actually, singapore lincense is well recognized in all Commonwealth countries and u dun need a international driving permit at all.
Singapore lincense cannot be used in china if you are china citizen, and i think better u learn driving in china, as road condition is quite different..
Not many local drivers dare to drive in china...: )

They have an international automobile asscociation.
each member country agree on allowing "international driving permit" holder to drive in foreign country if they stay less than 12 months.
From what i know, china allow foreigners to joining drving test (sometimes only test traffic rules) directly if they have an international driving permit.
once pass an temp china lincense is issued.

However, as far as i know, some car rental firm in china lease car to foreigner with only driving permit also.
in that case, no china lincense needed. but i dun know how police treat such cases.

if singaporean intend to drive in chian for a long period, she/he must learn driving in china. it is allowed, at least in Jinan/shandong.
