Since there are a few xiangqi clubs sending two teams each, if the confirmed number of teams is 10 or 12, may be the method used in 2005 Lion City Cup Group B could be cosndiered : --

To divide all 10 or 12 teams into two groups, each group to have 2 or 3 seeded teams depending on the players in the team, teams from the same club to be balloted into different groups.

Phase 1 -- round robin system to be used for each group, total of 5 rounds

Phase 2 --

1st to 4th postions :

the top 2 of each group to continue 2 more rounds to deicde on 1st to 4th positions.

5th to 8th positions :

the 3rd and 4th placings of each group to continue 2 more rounds to deicde on 5th to 8th positions.

9th to 12th positions :

the 5th and 6th placings of each group to continue 2 more rounds to deicde on 9th to 12th positions.

If there are 13 or more teams, then the method to be used could be ......
