Identifing and correcting the cause of bottle feeding problems (listed above) may go a long way to improving your baby's comfort and enjoyment of feeding. But some additional tips on how to manage fussiness during feeding may also help...
· Get her to start sucking on a finger or pacifier, quickly remove it and then put the bottle in.
· Try using gentle pressure of your finger under her chin - in time with the sucking.
· Try gentle cheek pressure while she's feeding.
· If your baby is over 2 or 3 months, try feeding her while she's asleep.
· Gently rock and pat or even walk with her during feeding.
· Try feeding in a quiet dark room or try distracting her by signing or watching a mobile.
· If feeding is difficult, stop trying after 20 minutes or so. Give yourself and your baby a break, play with her for 10 or 15 minutes and then try again. If she continues to resist wait until the next feed.
