Bioinformatics position
A bioinformation position (with MSc or Ph.D. degree) is available immediately at the Neural Stem Cell Research Laboratory (NSCRL) located at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI). The lab is interested in imploring the transcriptomic profiling of various neurodegenerative diseases prevalent in Singapore’s aging population, while developing novel therapeutic and diagnostic biomarkers for translational applications.
Applicants should have a strong background in bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing data analytics, and statistical modelling. A basic understanding of molecular biology centric relevants to neuroscience principles will be an added bonus. Successful candidates must be highly motivated, have passion for research, and be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
Our laboratory utilizes relevant cellular models (primary cell culture and stem cells including 2D-iPSC and 3D-organoids) and animal models to decipher the pathophysiology of various neurodegenerative disease of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Our patient-derived models are unique to our research institute, and they provide the candidate with an exposure to the forefront of translational research. In the current opening, the candidate will be primarily responsible for the setup of a core bioinformatics platform while concurrently handling the bioinformatics analysis of NGS data. Ongoing projects includes 10xGenomics derived single-cell sequencing data of organoids and post-mortem samples of prevailing neurodegenerative diseases to help to uncover the insights into the plausible genomic, molecular and therapeutic avenues. The candidate should be highly independent and competent in spearheading research projects by formulating appropriate hypothesis with NGS-derived insights that will be used as the basis for molecular validations.
Requirements:
- MSc or Ph.D. with a strong research background in Bioinformatics / Biostatistics / Computer-Science or equivalent (B.Sc with relevant working experience will also be considered)
- Experience in analysis of NGS dataset including: bulk-sequencing, single-cell, spatial-sequencing, CHIP-seq, and ATAC-seq
- Programming skills in any of the following: R / Python / Shell script or similar
- Experience and comfortable with open-source bioinformatics tools (cellranger, Seurat, salmon/kallisto, DESeq2, clusterprofiler)
- Possess a strong fundamental understanding of biostatistics is highly desirable
- Excellent analytical, technical, and problem solving skills
- Team player with good interpersonal skills
- Possess know-how in technical writing and presentation skills.
- Appreciation of or interest in neurosciences principles
Interested candidates are to send a cover letter and resume detailing your research interests/projects, past-research experience, and publications to li_zeng@nni.com.sg
