United Microelectronics Corp, the world's second-largest made-to-order chip supplier, said it would raise production capacity at two of its plants, without providing a timetable or details of the increase.
The chipmaker will increase capacity at its factories in Singapore and Taiwan that use 12-inch silicon wafers, Jackson Hu, chairman and chief executive officer of UMC, said yesterday at a shareholders' meeting in Hsinchu.
