however, take Europe as an example. Over the years, EU has been tring to merge europe or at least western europe into a country as a whole, but still we can not see any progress now. If it will take 50 years (optimized estimation) to merge such an area, how many years do we need to merge the whole world.

What if nowadays people can move with their will? Majority will move to the western countries, which will make the world rather a mass. Why? Wealth is not distributed equally on the earth.
Global economic?Since the economics becomes more and more rely on technology, there is a tendence that the rich nations are richer and poor countries are poorer.
Cultural diluting? that may be the most possible thing to happen, since nowadays hollywood and mcdonald are everywhere. More importantly, the charm of the american (should not say western) culture is it is telling people that to follow your appetite is not a sin,(appetite to show your voice in politic, for money, for fame, for love and sex.) which explans why there are so many anamorphosis in american in some way.
It is attractive. Especially compared with the tradition chinese view which mainly emphasises on continence.(you are an expert on chinese study,right?)But is it right?
Americans have quite understand it themselvs, so they are trying to fix their culture by two things: religious and law. And from these two things you can see the difference between usa and the traditional europe.in europe, christian is more a belief while in usa it is more a moral philosopy. for law, especially in the criminal law area, there are also differences.
Oh, i forgot. last time you said you were interested in both areas, so should know more than me.
